Goalkeeper Training

Goalkeepers are vital to a successful team, and they need specific training to guide them and integrate them into team play. That's exactly what the Dutch FC Goalkeeper Program provides: dedicated, position-specific training for every Dutch FC goalkeeper, at no extra cost, as part of the club's development-first approach.

Dutch FC's goalkeeper philosophy starts with the team. Every Dutch FC goalkeeper should get at least one team training session per week where the coach treats them like a field player — because the modern goalkeeper in a team that plays Total Football must be technical and confident with the ball at their feet. Dutch FC strongly encourages goalkeepers to participate as field players in their team training sessions.

Much of the tactical side of the goalkeeper's game is also taught within team play by the team coaches, with the support of the goalkeeper coach.

The Dutch FC Goalkeeper Program provides the part that team training does not: dedicated, goalkeeper-specific technical work. This is where keepers learn to use their hands — handling, diving, footwork, positioning, and distribution — and master the craft that is unique to the position, so they return to their teams sharper and more confident every week.

The Dutch FC Goalkeeper Program has three parts: the Club Goalkeeper Program — free weekly training in the fall and spring, the private goalkeeper training offered by Coach Trey Nickel, and goalkeeper camps, clinics and tournaments held throughout the year.
